关于 | About
Xiaowen Zhu is a media artist, curator and writer. Described as a visual poet, social critic, and aesthetic researcher, She uses video, photography, performance, installation and mixed media as platforms to communicate the complicated experience of being an international and to wrestle with the notion of a disembodied identity. Her questions are often raised from her observation and reflection as a critical thinker and an active communicator.

"I believe that in the matrix of worldly phenomenon and personal experience, there exists some fundamental truth that may explain the puzzle if we choose to look at things in an alternative way. Therefore, it is my goal to represent the different angle without actually telling the truth that I think is true."

Zhu is currently based in London, UK. She is the first receipt of the TASML Artist Residency Award and Marylyn Ginsburg Klaus Post-MFA Fellowship. She was an artist-in-residence at ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany and V2_Institute for the Unstable Media, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Prior to relocating in the UK, she taught video art in Syracuse University, NY and Marymount College, CA as visiting professor in addition to her art practice. Zhu was a curator at the Arcade Gallery and a guest curator at the Nuart Gallery in San Pedro, CA during her one-year artist residency. She organized numerous media art exhibitions, artist talk, and film screenings in collaboration with institutes spanning three continents, including Venice Arts Gallery, Los Angeles; Chronus Art Center, Shanghai; Tongji University, Shanghai; Spark Art Space, Syracuse; Marymount College, Palos Verdes and more. Additionally, she is a writer for Art289 in Guangzhou, China and Wulun in New York, USA, as well as a contributor for QuestionArts Project in Los Angeles, USA. She received her MFA in Art Video from Syracuse University, USA and BA in Film, TV Production & Media Art from Tongji University, China.
